Demonstration 1.
In this Demo, we will create a 2D flat from a SolidWorks® 3D model.
The first item is to create a Sheet metal part within SolidWorks® . This is accomplished by
creating a base plane in a sketch and then labeling it as a sheet metal and applying a
thickness to the part, as shown in the figure below
Once the base sketch has been identified and the material thickness set you can use
your SolidWorks® sheet metal tool bar
along with your other tools for editing planes to create your shops typical enclose or
part and apply any flanges or appropriate bending information, all using the information you
already have existing in SolidWorks® for your engineering of parts. You will notice that since
you have begun designing in sheet metal, your part now has a flatten pattern within its
definitions. All that is left in SolidWorks® now, is to save your part.
Now in your MetaCAM software, we must import your SolidWorks® part. Since we
have applied flat information, we are able to bring your part directly into the 2D portion of
MetaCAM. Using the File Pull-Down menu select Import\SolidWorks Flat…
Simply find your file and choose to open import it.
