Piping Design Fundamentals in CATIA

Step (1): Create and name a new Line ID

In this step you will learn how to create a new Line ID and how to set its properties.

1. Access the Piping Design workbench.

2. Select the Create Line ID Icon.

3. In the Create Line ID panel, key in: “Sea Water Intake 8” CS150R”.

Assign attributes to the Line ID

4. Click on the Properties button.

5. In the Properties dialog box select the Piping tab.

6. Select the desired Attributes you want associated to this Line ID.

7. Select the OK button to complete your Attribute selections.

8. Select the OK button in the Create Line ID dialog box to finish the process.

9. Now create a second Piping Line ID: “Sea Water Cooling 6” CS150R”.


Step (2): Routing a Run

In this step you will learn how to route a Run.

  1. Open the Model …/Data_Student/TRNG Piping Design.CATProduct .
  1. At first we need to place an Offset Plane to place the Run exactly.
  2. span style='mso-ignore:vglayout; ;z-index:3;left:0px;margin-left:101px;margin-top:65px; width:434px;height:249px'Therefore click the Offset-Plane Icon and place the Offset Plane like it is shown in the picture.
  3. span style='mso-ignore: vglayout;;z-index:4;left:0px;margin-left:53px;margin-top: 30px;width:516px;height:40px'Select the LineID “Seawater Intake 8” CS150R” from the Design Criteria Toolbar.
  4. Select the Run Icon .
  5. The Run Definition Dialog appears .
  6. Select the Orthogonal Routing mode.
  7. Select the nozzle on the Pump-Sea-water equipment when the green arrow appears.
  8. Route from the nozzle to the hole in the deck by selecting the pop-up green arrow at the hole.
    (A connector has been placed on this hole.)
  9. Drag the Run through the hole and stop when the distance value reaches 12in.
  10. Switch to the Directional routing mode .
    Note: When switching to the Directional mode, the compass is placed at the end of the Run. You can change the direction of the compass by pressing the Shift key. You can also change the direction by right clicking the compass and select the edit option.
  11. Drag the Run to the approximate center of the access hole and click.
  12. Change your view window to Left View .
  13. Using the Shift key to change the direction of the compass.
  14. Route to the edge of the second bulkhead and click. You may choose to use the Offset Plane (optional).
  15. Change the angle of the compass by rotating it 30 degrees.
    Note: To change the compass angle, right click anywhere on the compass, then select Edit. In the Compass Manipulation dialog box, set the Angle to 30deg. Now select the X (or U) axis, choose either the minus or plus button. Select the Close button when you are finished.
