ANSYS AUTODYN and Workbench

Explicit Dynamics (ANSYS) in Workbench

Explicit Dynamics (ANSYS) and AUTODYN

?Link to AUTODYN to

–Use Euler solvers

?Fluid-structure interaction (FSI)

?Air blast

–Use Mesh-free (SPH) solver

?Hyper-velocity impact (HVI)

?Brittle failure

–Use Additional Material Models

?Non-linear composites

?Explosives

–Run 2D simulations

?Generate Complex (CAD) geometry / mesh in Workbench

?Solve in AUTODYN

–Analyze a pre-stressed geometry

?Pre-stress in Static Structural (ANSYS) (Implicit)

?Solve in AUTODYN (Explicit)

Linking to AUTODYN

?Create an AUTODYN cell in the project schematic by Dragging and Dropping the AUTODYN Component System onto the Explicit Dynamics cell at the Setup Level

?The Explicit Dynamics Setup (cell A) is now linked to the AUTODYN Setup (cell B)

?You cannot Edit the Model Immediately

–Error message “No upstream data exists!”

?You must first perform an Update

–Creates a data file containing upstream data

–AUTODYN application will automatically open after the Update for Editing

?You can Edit the model at any time from the Project Schematic once the upstream data file has

been created

–But you must Update again if you make changes in Explicit Dynamics
