Abaqus Simulation of the rotary shear experiment through the overlay method

Experimental techniques show that the stresses associated with a small torsion superposed on large tension cannot be modelled for filled rubber using any hyperelastic model. Ahmadi et al. (1999) suggest that this phenomenon is related to that of energy dissipation in a strain cycle. The literature on biaxial shear of a rubber shows that for both unfilled and filled rubber, energy dissipation occurs if the deformation is held at a constant magnitude but rotated through the material.
This paper aims to show that the overlay technique proposed by Austrell (1997) is able to
reproduce the energy dissipation of the rubber material subjected to cyclic shear deformation, and describes the results obtained from the simulation of a rubber disc subjected to cyclic uniaxial shear and rotational shear deformation, an experiment first proposed by Gent (1960).
