A note on simulating hammer forgings:
Accurately simulating a hammer forging process requires an above normal amount of
data about the press, and some additional effort to set up and run the simulation. A
hammer template is available to assist in the preparation of this data.
The simulation can be simplified a bit by assuming a constant die velocity. This will
give good information about material flow, and can be used to estimate total energy
consumed, but will not directly give the number of blows required to make the part.
In this lab, the process will first be set up using the constant speed assumption, then
directions will be given for simulating the complete process.
