1. MACHINE FAULTS AND THEIR EFFECT ON
MACHINE VIBRATION
During operation of machines the moving of machine
components always generates vibrations. Faults of
machine elements usually cause a change of the
normal machine vibration. The vibration may be
measured with sensors mounted onto the machine.
Their signals are digitized and processed by a
computer. By means of signal analysis techniques the
signal components of interest can be extracted and
examined. In this way machine faults and defects may
be detected and isolated.
