Getting Started Using Adams/Flex

Welcome to Adams/Flex
Adams/Flex is an add-on module to MD Adams products that lets you add flexible bodies to your models
to achieve more realistic simulation results.
If you’ve never used Adams/Flex before, this guide is a good place to start learning about Adams/Flex.
As you work through the two tutorials that we have provided, you will learn most of the basic concepts
and tasks that you can perform using Adams/Flex.
Before doing these tutorials you should be familiar with the basic features of the Adams/View interface.
For information about the Adams/View interface, see the guide, Getting Started Using Adams/View.

About the Tutorials
The two tutorials in this guide give you an introduction to using Adams/Flex:
• Building and Simulating a Flexible Model - The first tutorial teaches you how to integrate
flexible bodies into Adams/View and attach rigid bodies to them. The tutorial also introduces
you to Adams/Flex basics, such as the options that are available for setting up the modal content
of flexible bodies before a simulation.
• Exchanging a Rigid Body with a Flexible Body - The second tutorial teaches you how to bring
a flexible body into an existing model and replace a rigid body with the flexible body. It lets you
see how easy it is to integrate the flexible body into an existing rigid model so you can gradually
add complexity and realism to your model.
Note that there are additional tutorials in the guide, Using Adams/Flex, that explain many of the
advanced features of Adams/Flex. They are presented in the chapters in which the advanced features are
explained.

Auto Cross Correlation Function

The nSoft ACCF module performs auto-correlation and cross-correlation on up to two single
parameter files.
It calculates the auto correlation function of a single time series signal and plots it graphically.
If two input files are entered, ACCF auto-correlates the two signals and, if possible, cross-correlates
each file. These results can also be plotted.

Overview of Anomaly Detection

Anomaly detection is the process of checking a data stream against a set of conditions
defining the validity of the data.
The software system which performs this function comprises three main parts.
• Anomaly definition - Define which anomalies to monitor on which data channels. A single
definition can be used with multiple test data sets.
• Anomaly detection - Perform a detection on one or more data sets given a previously
created anomaly definition.
• Anomaly display - Display the details of the detected anomalies, either graphically or in
a tabular form.
These three parts are provided as three separate programs, ANDEFINE, ANDETECT
and ANMULEDT.

Contour Plotting Program

The CONTOR module produces contour plots from any nSoft histogram file. Normally it is used for
JPH files produced from a joint probability analysis. The JPH files can be produced by nSoft module
JPD. The plotted file is displayed on screen, or at the users discretion saved as a plot file for later
printing. CONTOR also plots regression lines, if available, that show the degree of correlation
between the input data sets.

This new product allows you to create an NCL Unibase directly from SolidWorks. Registering SwUnibase.dll will add the following menu to SolidWorks.

NCL/IGES REFERENCE DOCUMENT

The name IGES is an acronym which stands for the Initial Graphics Exchange
Specification. This standard has been developed to allow the exchange of
geometric and graphic data between dissimilar CAD/CAM systems.
The NCL/IGES converter imports and exports ASCII IGES files. Imported files
are converted to NCL Unibase files and NCL Unibase files are exported to IGES
files.
NCL/IGES is implemented as a subset of the U.S. Department of Commerce
IGES Version 5.0 supporting those entities that allow a direct conversion into NCL
entity types.

The following are the default ‘hot keys’ when running NCL. The functions on the keyboard can be customized by the user by editing the file nccs/VER/interface/nclkeys.plt. Where VER is ncl96, and plt is either sun, or sgi depending on the platform (IBM’s, PC, and SGI platforms use the same fle). Keys shown in upper case are activated by pressing SHIFT and the function key simultaneously. The NUM LOCK key must be lit to use the function keys on the numeric keypad. Refer to NCL Reference Manual: Appendix D - for a list of available programmable functions, and Appendix E - for a list of allowable keyboard keys.

ProCAM Installation Guide

The steps to install ProCAM are listed below. If you are installing ProCAM to run on a network, the
installation directions are provided on the ProCAM CD.
1 Verify that you have the hardware and software required to run ProCAM (page 1-4).
These steps assume that your PC is running a supported version of Windows and your mouse
and video card are functioning correctly in Windows. In addition, make sure all critical
operating system updates and driver updates are installed.
If you are going to run Solids Machining, Access 2000, 2002, 2003 or Access 2000 Runtime
must be installed before running the ProCAM setup program.
2 Start Windows and insert the ProCAM CD in the drive.
After a brief pause, the Setup program should run automatically and the Setup menu should
display. If the menu does not display automatically, select Start on the Taskbar and choose Run.
In the Run dialog box, type d:\setup (or the letter of the CD drive) and click OK. You can also
start the program from Windows Explorer by opening the CD folder and double-clicking
setup.exe.
3 Click the Release Notes button on the Setup menu and read the Release Notes.
This file contains important information you need to know before installing.
4 Click the Win 2000/XP Driver button on the Setup menu to install the license/security key
driver.
Install this driver if you are installing ProCAM for the first time or if you have upgraded the
operating system to 2000 or XP. Without this driver, ProCAM cannot read the key and will run
in Demo mode. If you install the driver, reboot your PC before starting ProCAM.
5 Click the ProCAM II button on the Setup menu and follow the prompts to install the software.
6 Click the applicable buttons on the Setup menu to install supplemental TekSoft and third-party
products that you are licensed to run.
CAUTION! If you install supplemental programs (e.g., ProNest, Verify version 5.1) that you
have not purchased, these programs will not run. If you would like to purchase a license for any
of these programs, contact your TekSoft reseller.
7 Activate your ProCAM license.
ProCAM uses a key (also called a copy protection block or dongle) for licensing and protection
against unauthorized use. A key is a small hardware device that fits on the parallel port or the
USB connector of the PC. The key is programmed for the modules and versions you are licensed
to run and if the key is not attached, ProCAM will run in Demo mode.

Managing your files with Teamcenter Engineering ensures that data can only be
modified by one user at a time. Write access is gained by checking the file out of the
Teamcenter Engineering database. To relinquish access, you must either cancel the
checkout and lose any modifications you have made to the file, or check the file
back in to the database.
The standard AutoCAD file commands are also available in Teamcenter 2005
Integration for AutoCAD. These commands store files locally, rather than in the
Teamcenter Engineering database; however, there are no restrictions preventing you
from using both AutoCAD and Teamcenter 2005 Integration for AutoCAD commands.
When you save an AutoCAD file in Teamcenter Engineering, Teamcenter 2005
Integration for AutoCAD automatically saves any files that are dependent on
the saved file. For example, if you save an AutoCAD assembly in Teamcenter
Engineering, Teamcenter 2005 Integration for AutoCAD automatically saves all
component parts and subassemblies before saving the assembly file.

UGS does not support code extensions that use unpublished and
undocumented APIs or extension points. All APIs and other extension
points are unpublished unless documented in the official set of technical
manuals and help files issued by UGS Technical Communications.
The Teamcenter license agreements prohibit reverse engineering, including:
decompiling Teamcenter object code or bytecode to derive any form of the
original source code; the inspection of header files; and the examination of

computers so that users can log in without manually setting the environment. If this
has not been done by your administrator, you must manually set the Teamcenter
Engineering environment before you can run a session.
IMAN_ROOT and IMAN_DATA are the only environment variable settings

be set automatically at login. However, there are several standalone utilities such as

A translation server functions as an independent compute server that translates files
from one format to other formats. It consists of a translation scheduler, translation
modules, and an optional test client. For better load balancing, each translation
module resides on a separate machine and is connected to the translation scheduler.
The scheduler sends translation tasks to the modules and they invoke one or more
translators to perform the translations.
The translation server allows you to perform translations either using a Web server
(Web mode) or through remote method invocation (RMI) mode. RMI is a standard
for distributed objects written in Java and uses a remote procedure call (RPC) to
invoke applications, components, and/or modules in a network. Translations using
the RMI mode are generally faster. The translation server standard installation
supports RMI mode.
• Web mode: For performing translations across a firewall. This mode requires a
Web server and a file server.
• RMI mode: For performing translations within a firewall. This mode requires
a common staging directory.
For more information about the Web mode and RMI mode, see Translation Process,
later in this chapter.
The scheduler balances the translation load in the event of multiple translation
requests. If you have numerous translation tasks in the scheduler queue at your
site, you can start multiple modules. Each module is automatically connected to
the translation scheduler and immediately starts participating in the translation
process.
The translation task request embeds information of the source file location and
type of translation. The module starts a separate thread to process each request.
On starting the thread, the module downloads the source file from the file server
or common staging directory location to a unique directory, invokes the required
translator, and starts the translation process. After the translation server
successfully completes the translation process, the module uploads the resulting files
to the file server or common staging directory location and notifies the scheduler.
The scheduler then communicates the status of the translation to the client.

The basic concept behind Security Services is the notion of a single sign-on
(SSO) session. An SSO session spans one or more Teamcenter applications. It is
established after the user is successfully authenticated through a Teamcenter login,
which occurs as a side effect of the user accessing the first Teamcenter application.
The session terminates either after the user logs out of each Teamcenter application
or after the session expires.
Session expiration occurs if there is no interaction with Security Services over some
configurable span of time, even if the user is actively using one or more Teamcenter
applications. However, SSO session expiration does not affect a user’s current
session with any Teamcenter application; it simply means they receive another login
challenge if they start another Teamcenter application.

The Classification application utilizes a classification hierarchy to categorize your
company’s product data. As the system administrator, you use Classification
Administration to define the groups, classes, and views that form the classification

The Classification Administration application is best suited for creating a new

ETS was originally envisioned to resolve a data incomplete situation that was
created when an assembly was imported into Teamcenter with I-deas® data sharing
import. Following the import, no assembly transforms were available. As the
requirements accumulated for Engineering Translation Services, the vision of ETS
evolved into a generic framework incorporating the Translation Solution Toolkit
(TSTK) that could support any type of translation provided by TSTK.
One of the more significant requirements placed on ETS was the generation of
visualization data in a way that minimally impacts user resources. As a result, ETS
is asynchronous, driven by requests to translate objects. Requests to translate an
object or objects are created by specific user actions, triggers, or by background
processes and are persisted for the lifetime of the translation.

Multiflash Command Reference

Multiflash is an advanced software package for performing complex
equilibrium calculations quickly and reliably. The main utility is a
multiple phase equilibrium algorithm which is interfaced to
Infochem’s package of thermo dynamic models and a number of
physical property data banks. The program also contains Infochem’s
Chemreact utility for performing simultaneous phase and chemical
equilibrium calculations
This document describes the Multiflash command language which
can be used to configure and drive the software. Multiflash itself
can be used and accessed in many different ways (see below) but
the command language is common to all implementations. An
overview of the Multiflash software structure is given in the diagram
on the following page.
The command-line version of Multiflash is largely machine
independent. It can be run by typing in all the necessary instructions
at the command line or by reading in files of commands. The
software is also available as an interactive Micro soft Windows
program (see the User’s Guide for Multiflash for Windows) and as an
add-in for use with the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program (see
the User’s Guide for Multiflash Excel Interface).
For application developers Multiflash can be used as a set of
procedures callable from Microsoft Visual Basic (see the
Programmer’s Guide for the Multiflash Visual Basic Interface), C and

ics (CFD) software packages. This chapter explains how to make use of foreign
objects that are already interfaced to gPROMS; and also how to develop and
interface your own foreign objects.
 The gPROMS Physical Property Interface (see chapter 3).
Physical property packages form a special type of foreign objects (see above) that
are encountered very frequently in practice. The gPROMS Physical Property
Interface (PPI) de nes a standard set of physical property facilities that should be
supported by all physical property packages interfaced to gPROMS. Some widely
used physical property packages are already interfaced to gPROMS; details on
how to use them are also provided in this chapter. Finally, the PPI provides
a particularly convenient way of interfacing new physical property packages to
gPROMS.
 The gPROMS Foreign Process Interface (see chapter 4).
The Foreign Process Interface (FPI) allows gPROMS simulations to interact with
external software such as distributed control systems and operator training pack-
ages in order to exchange data and other information. The interaction takes the
form of a special set of elementary actions within the gPROMS TASK language.
FPI is particularly useful for embedding gPROMS simulations within larger soft-
